How I Celebrated Christmas

It began with a very usual morning. I woke up with Amaira (my daughter) digging , pushing and pulling me ! I attended her diaper-ish needs, followed by brushing battles and then her hungry stomach-ish needs till her baby sitter relieved me for the next 2 to 3 hours, after which she leaves and Amaira finds her way back to me.

Christmas morning like I said, was like any other typical morning. Everything was buzzing as usual. However there was one difference. We had a Christmas tree in our living room.

Our Christmas Tree

A small , cute tree that my husband decorated and Amaira was so mesmerized by. She practiced the words “on” and “off” every time he switched on and switched off the lights. He bought a whole load of bells ,Santa , gift hangings, foam stars and pretty much stuff that probably made him happier than the rest of us. He also got a reindeer head band ! Our little princess wore it and danced around in glee !

Soon another unexpected thing happened – two children from our society appeared and announcingly questioned “Ye Amaira ka ghar hai ? ” , meaning “Is this Amaira’s house ? ” All her subjects answered in affirmative. And then the children handed over one Christmas sweet each – unwrapped, bare, in sweaty and dusty hands ; and probably touched by a handful more children downstairs before they found their way to “Amaira’s house” . In all probability, the children must have opened a great packet of assorted sweets, chomped a few right there, grabbed a few, dropped a few and the remaining may have been assigned for the distribution in the name of Yuletide spirit !

Sweets of love

They are a specimen. No one is going to eat them though , but they are a symbol of love and acceptance Amaira has received with her interactions with all these children. Most of them are much older than she is – they are 8 to 12 year olds and Amaira has only 4 of her  “age mates” who are 19 month – 24 month olds. I am assuming all these little kiddies were blessed by the elderly lot !

Talking of presents, we couldn’t wait to open them ! Quite literally. So my husband’s T shirt was worn, my stationary set was used and Amaira’s gift books were opened and read 2-3 days before Christmas.

Wrappers were recycled too. We did open a brand new chocolate bar on Christmas morning. Something had to be unwrapped. Ritter Sport – I love it – it had come in a package from Germany and we all devoured it.

All in all these small little things made Christmas special – we also made a home made sweet.

Would I rather # 4

Question, answer, asking.

Yet another round of some fun questions by Donna Farmer

Would you rather have nosy neighbors or noisy neighbors? Noisy. Better evil.

Would you rather be on a survival reality show or dating game show? Survival reality. And lose in the first round almost deliberately. Jungles, dungeons, heights, depths and creepy crawlies are not for me.

Would you rather be too busy or be bored? Too busy. Its a part of my everyday life. (this was easy)

Would you rather watch the big game at home or live at the stadium. Live at the stadium at least once in my life. Otherwise at home – that is IF I ever watch !

Would you rather spend the day with your favorite athlete or you favorite movie star? Movie star. Ranveer Singh. Chew his brains non stop !

Would you rather live where it is constantly winter or where it is constantly summer? Constantly summer. I’d be a happier person that way.

Would you rather travel the US and see the sights in a motorhome or by plane? By a plane.

Would you rather be a little late or way too early?  Can never be WAY TOO early ! Little late sounds more like me.

Would you rather have an unlimited gift certificate to a restaurant or a clothing store? Restaurant for sure.

Would you rather date someone you met online or go on a blind date? Met online. Blind date used to sound fun before , but not anymore. Not that I have done either – but just hypothetical choices !

Would you rather your kids wear a uniform to school or clothing of their choice? Wear uniform. As children we did that, and I know of its importance both materialistically and sub consciously.

Would you rather have many good friends or one very best friend? One very best friend usually encompasses many acquaintances or not so great friends . Extremely hard to find variety. Thats what I’d choose too.

Would you rather live in Antarctica or the Sahara Desert? Another weather based one – and as always I will choose warm , toasty , burny , scorchy – the Desert !

Would you rather be able to take back anything you say or hear every conversation around you? On a second thought I’d rather take back what I said – coz that is out of my mouth. It may have caused potential harm and to be able to undo that would be far more beneficial than eavesdropping.

Would you rather be 4’5” or 7’7”? 4’5” and then wear heels ! I have never done that 🙂

Thankyou Donna🙂
